Columbine Copycat

Filed under: World, Personal — Eric Huang @ 6:17 pm

This is a sad day indeed. Who in their right mind goes and does these sort of things? (CNN Link) And I thought the police checked MySpace and other social sites nowadays… Geez, how far can these go? One day after I left Seattle for Victoria, Canada, there was a shooting no less then 3 blocks away from my hotel! Some guy decided to pull a hate crime and held hostage several women who worked for the local Jewish federation. I had even drove by that building several times days before the incident…

What drives people to do these things? Even more so, what drives teenagers to do these things? They, myself included, haven’t even experienced half the things we encounter in life and yet they decide to go and shoot some people. What purpose does that accomplish for them? Most of them commit suicide anyhow, so what is the point? To take revenge on some fellow student who you feel angered at? Well, that’s just wrong!

I really just don’t understand what can drive people my age this crazy… Is it becuase they stick out so much from the normal? Is it becuase they watch to many Reality TV shows, like CSI? Is it becuase they’re goth or emo and just hate everyone for no apparent reason? What’s wrong with these people? And more importantly can anyone help them? Also, in the case of the Columbine shootings, the parents knew what was happenening way before the fellow students and police found out… If only his parents took the videos to the police way before that happened.

I just wish these things would stop happening. We already have plenty of bloodshed on the rest of the world, in Iraq, Afghanistan, Isreal, Palestine, etc. I just am thankful that I don’t have these problems at my school.
