Today’s Generation Part 2

Filed under: World, Politics — Eric Huang @ 6:23 pm

Okay, been awhile but anyhow. It’s the China question now and again. Will China finally rise to become a capitalistic superpower? Or will it linger in it’s communist and state-controlled days? As of right now, I can’t speculate on either one. There are steps being taken to move towards capitalism which in my opinion is a great first step. Now-a-days forgeign business’ are pouring money into the Southern Regions which is promoting growth at a rapid pace. Now, there’s Chinese yuppies or the growing middle class that live in high-rise apartments. That wasn’t around a couple of decades ago.

However, there is a lot more to go to being a full-fledged country based completly on democratic and capitalistic ideals. ForShanghai one, there is rampant corruption everywhere, often people will give their doctors money under the table just to schedule a checkup or to get some medicine. That is a major problem and until that’s fixed many areas are only going to suffer more as the more money-infused areas grow at a quicker pace.

Hong-Kong has always been a very Westernized place and it shows in the double-decker tour buses and the way people often dress and speak. However, the rest of the country has yet to catch up to that point. Hopefully China can get rid of that old, sluggish machine called the old regime and replace it with a brand-spanking new democratic machine without much happening. When this took place in other countries, or regimes fell, revolutions and many a bloodbath occured, hopefully this won’t happen in China.

The rest of the Far East is in somewhat of the same state. South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and other countries are still developing often becuase of obstacles in the way of development. For instance Japan has a culture that is just not tuned into the same capitalistic radio station. However, with much of the world’s microchips and high tech commidities being made in Taiwan and other Far Eastern countries, I hope that they can pull it together and come into a new age with a government, people, and culture still intact.
