So You Think Your Hip?
One of my biggest pet peeves are when people use Internet slang. It’s retarded in my opinion, and the only slang phrases you’ll ever catch me using are: gtg, brb, IMO, and maybe ttyl. It transforms converstions like this:
Me: Hey
You: Hi
Me: What’s up?
You: nm, hbu?
It’s like what? Bet your parents don’t know what your talking about. It just really annoys me becuase what is the purpose of it? To save you from typing for what, two seconds? Really people, how much time does it really save you? And some people are taking it to an art form! I mean really, WTF! (Hah, that’s another one you’ll here me saying) I mean it’s annoying, when you here all these 12 year olds in Counter-Strike and World of Warcraft yelling FTW over chat and mike! SO FREAKING ANNOYING!
I tell you, why? It’s seemingly unprofessional and makes you look like you want to be black! Let me give you an example of why it seems just wrong, everyone who I talk to in IM who are professionals or at least act like professionals never use chat lingo. There’s a reason why nobody uses YIM or MSN, becuase that’s where all the professionals lurk and all you AIM fanboys are scared of it! Heh, it’s true, don’t deny it! Also, another thing, no single adult or anybody over 18 who I’ve talked to uses it to the extent that some of my friends do. It makes conversations that would be a paragraph long to one sentence… What’s the fun in that? It takes away whatever was in the context. Next time I see someone yelling FTW, I’ll yell back FTL!
