DIY Laptops
Ever heard of Whitebooks or barebones? Well, if you have then this is for you. If you haven’t heard nowadays you can, I repeat can build your own laptop! Why do you ask would someone go through this? Well, it offers a number of advantages over mainstream laptops.
Advantage #1: This is a MYTH, you can save a lot of money with whitebones as you pick and choose the components, you can save just like building your own Desktop
Advantage #2: Becuase you pick and choose your own parts, you decide what’s in your laptop making it easy to make $1000 laptops to $3000 laptops.
Advantage #3: You also have somewhat of a better choice with parts becuase laptop retailers like Dell, or Sony only offer one or two choices per option.
Advantage #4: You don’t have to deal with Bloatware, you know that 60 day trial of AOL you REALLY REALLY need. This is good so you don’t have to reformat your harddrive.
Advantage #5: You can get the barebone sellers to build the laptop for you, while it costs a bit more money if your not sure about doing it yourself, you have this option.
Advantage #6: You get to choose what case your laptop comes in, not like the prebuilt computers that Dell or Sony offer. However note that you often don’t find the best looking cases in the barebone section. But most people buy them for the power, not the looks.
So, what are the cons? Well, for one you don’t have the warrenty the laptop companies can offer you, however the parts themselves are usually warrentied by the manufacturer. This is DIY, so you can easily break the laptop and so know what your doing. Your problem wondering, if it’s this good, why haven’t I done it yet? Well, becuase 1) I’m waiting for the Intel Core 2 Duo Memrom chips, and 2) debating whether or not I should shell out my hard earned cash. In any event, I do plan to build one myself.
